Eporro.com President Jim Cavale (Center) was joined by B.A.P. Executive Director Mike Vest (Left) and Mayor Larry P. Langford (Right) at Tuesday’s press conference that took place at City Hall in Birmingham.

Birmingham, Ala. – "The most important thing is for our children to get an education," said Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford, and on the backdrop of that premise a historic partnership was formed today between the city’s schools and Eporro.com.

The collaboration allows for all seven schools in the Birmingham City District to become full-fledged members of Eporro.com, which assists student-athletes in marketing themselves to college coaches across the nation. The recruiting site, which was launched in September of 2008, now has over 25 schools and services almost 1000 athletes in the greater Birmingham area.

"First off, I want to thank the mayor’s office for making this happen," opened Eporro.com President Jim Cavale, “We have a great product and its important that the Birmingham City Schools are now signed up with a site that can help kids reach their destiny."

Through extensive groundwork within the region, Eporro.com’s presence now extends to the downtown area. Traditional powers as Hoover High School and Spain Park have already committed to the product, along with institutions along the I-20 corridor. Former Lincoln High School star and Eporro.com client Jonathan George was signed by the University of Kentucky this fall, and other student-athletes have been awarded scholarships to NCAA colleges.

"My goal as a kid in the Syracuse area was to play baseball in the South," said Cavale. "Only because of the word of a friend was I able to get down here. Now, having worked alongside coaches and athletic directors through my broadcasting career (Cavale has worked at CSS and ESPNU), I see the struggles they face in terms of recruiting. We can assist them and promote Birmingham’s kids at the same time with Eporro.com."

This deal provides free access to every student-athlete within that umbrella, including those who participate in scholastic events. Each student is given a profile, where they can add test scores, full transcripts and game video for college coaches to view. They can also contact the coaches directly, via the database established by Eporro.com. In addition, there will be an Eporro.com link added to the city of Birmingham’s website, www.birminghamal.gov.

"I feel strongly about this because I used to be one of those players who didn’t have the connections that some do," said Cavale. "With these tools, we put the emphasis on the student-athlete to achieve for themselves."
